Designers and Diggers Study Club – Home page

2019-2021 Theme:  Plant Native, Design Boldly, Learn Eagerly

Background

In 1996, Nell Denman and Carol Russell established Designers and Diggers Garden Study Club. They had been asked to help in the formation of the club by women living in the North Dallas are who one another socially.  They wanted to form a Garden Club that was less formal and more of a study club.  At the beginning, there were 20 members.  Seven of the Charter Members are still affiliated with the club, affectionately referred to as D&D.

Where We Are Now

We now have ninety members. Our membership is comprised of a diverse group of women who have a common interest in horticulture, gardening, landscaping, floral design, civic responsibility and the environment.

In addition to members participation as Flower Show Judges, Master Gardeners, Certified Butterfly Gardens, etc., we are also committed to providing Community Services.  Twice a year we prepare gift bags for Visiting Nurses Association (Meals on Wheels) and VA Hospital residents.  In addition to supporting NGC, Inc., TGC, Inc. and District X projects, we donate our club overages to organizations like Wreaths Across America, Texas Discovery Gardens and Bonton Farms, to name a few.

Our Standard Flower Show, Swirling Fall Color, which was held in October 2018 won three First Place awards; Flowershow Achievement Award; FD-2 Floral Design Program, and; TGC, Inc. Flower Show Schedule, Division 1, Category A.

Meeting Schedule

Regular meetings are held on the second Friday of each month from September through May.

Meeting Location

We meet in members’ homes, Garden Centers – and currently virtually, via Zoom.

Membership

We maintain a Waiting List for New Members, who are sponsored for membership by an existing D&D Member, in good standing.  At the end of our club year, the number of new members added is dependent on the number of resignations.
